Congratulations to the ECE students who presented their senior design projects and competed in the 2016 Pelton Award for Outstanding Senior Project held during Commencement week.

Each of the teams presented their senior project first to a panel of SEAS faculty and alumni judges and later to the full audience. The students were judged on the engineering conception of their project, the quality of the engineering calculation and design, the feasibility of the project’s implementation, and the effectiveness of their formal oral presentation. They were given bonus points if their project was deemed patentable or sustainable.

The second-place Pelton award went to the team that produced an Instrumented Sport Helmet.  One of its three members, Lauren Gaczewski is a graduating EE major; the other two, Brittany Brumback and Kurt Castro, are BME majors.  The faculty mentors for this project were Professors David Lee and Jason Zara of the BME Department.

The third-place award went to the team that produced the Drowsy Driving Detection and Alert System.  One of its three members, Patrick Coughlin, is a CE major; the other two, David Rubenstein and Karan Singh are EE majors.  The faculty mentors for this project were Professors Volker Sorger and Charles Cameron of the ECE Department.
