Student Awards and Honors

Sean Letavish, a Bachelor of Science graduate who recently worked in Dr. Adam’s research group, had his paper, “Virtual Reality in the Semiconductor Industry”, selected as a winner in the Physical Sciences category of the 2022 SEAS R&D Showcase

Mohannad Alhazmi, a recent PhD graduate who worked in Dr. Dehghanian’s group, received the IEEE Industry Application Society's Award on Electrical Safety Prevention through Design Student Engineering Education Initiative; he was awarded a travel allowance and participation at the Electric Safety Workshop 2022, held on March 7 through 11, 2022

Chandraman Patil, a PhD student working in Dr. Sorger’s group, won the Best Paper Award for the paper, “1fJ/bit Coupling-Based ITO Monolithic Modulator in Integrated Photonics”, at the 26th Microoptics Conference in Japan, held September 26-29, 2021

 

Fall 2021 Student Awards

The GW Rocket Team, led by Benjamin Wormuth (CompE B.S. ‘21) and including Adam Brewer (EE B.S. ‘21), won First Place in the Space Dynamics Lab Payload Competition and received an honorable mention in the 10,000 ft (altitude) Student Research and Development (SRAD) Solid Booster Competition at the 2021 Virtual Spaceport America Cup, the largest collegiate rocket competition in the world.

Adam Brewer (CompE B.S. ‘21) and Russel Schwartz (EE B.S. ‘21) were awarded the Benjamin Cruikshank Award as seniors with the highest academic standing in each undergraduate major.

Nicholas Jin (EE B.S. ‘21) was awarded the Abdelfattah Abdalla Prize, for scholarship and service by a biomedical engineering, electrical engineering or computer science junior or senior to Eta Kappa Nu, IEEE, Tau Beta Pi, or the related department.

Ayebanatei Ikoli (EE B.S. ‘23) awarded the Tau Beta Pi Sophomore Award, for being ranked first at the end of the sophomore year. 

Jaret Williams (EE B.S. ‘21) awarded the Neilom Prize for Social Impact, for having a clear and articulated interest in the application of engineering to a particular area of social change.

Russel Schwartz (EE B.S. ‘21) awarded the Philip B. Kaplan Award as the senior graduating with the highest grade point average within electrical engineering.

Robert Caliri (EE B.S. ‘21), David Robles (EE B.S. ‘21), and Spencer Worrell (EE B.S. ‘21) awarded the ECE Senior Design Award, for their project, “Energy Harvesting System for IoT Edge Devices.”

Hanhan Zhou (EE PhD ‘23), Dr. Tian Lan and Dr. Guru Venkataramani were awarded $5,000 for the Technical Venture track in the 2021 GW New Venture Competition. Their venture, vFitting, is an AI-powered personalized virtual fitting room that lets you try on clothes at home using a single image.
