Professor Ahmed Louri and his research team have recently published a paper: “Reconfigurable Optical and Wireless (R-OWN) Network-on-Chip for High Performance Computing,” in the Third ACM International Conference on Nanoscale Computing and Communication 2016 (NanoCom'16). This work is sponsored by a grant from the National Science Foundation. Dr. Louri and his team demonstrate the use of optical and wireless technologies in providing energy efficient and scalable communications for future multicore chips. The work has the potential to break through the fundamental limitations of metallic interconnects and to pave the way for continued scaling of chip performance.
