Professor El-Ghazawi has attended a by-invitation workshop on Big Data and Extreme-Scale Computing which dealt with the convergence of Big Data and High-Performance Computing and which was held in Wuxi China.  During the workshop, vision for this convergence were shared based on the national programs from China, Japan, U.S. and the E.U.  During the workshop, Professor El-Ghazawi has visited Sunway Thaihulight, the top supercomputer in the world in Wuxi supercomputing center.  Sunway Taihulight is the top supercomputing in the world.  It has more than 10 million CPU cores using 260-core chips and can compute at 93 PetaFLOPS or 93,000 trillion calculations per second.

Following his visit to the Wuxi Supercomputing Center, Professor El-Ghazawi was invited to give distinguished lectures at the Chinese Academy of Science Supercomputing Research Center (CNIC-CAS) and Institute of Computing Technology (ICT) as well as Beihang University and Tsinghua University.  The title of his lecture was “Exploiting PGAS and Hierarchical Locality for Productive Extreme Computing”.   He has also given a tutorial on his parallel programming language known as UPC or Unified Parallel C for which he is one of the principal authors and the author of the main textbook on UPC.
