SEAS’ Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering Graduate Programs Rise in National Rankings

The George Washington University (GW) is one of the top institutions of higher education in the world. The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) within GW’s School of Engineering and Applied Science (SEAS) conducts top-quality research in a variety of areas, led by its world-class faculty and top-notch students that come from around the world.

In the 2023 edition of the U.S. News & World Report SEAS' programs in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) increased in rankings among peer institutions.

Among engineering school specialty rankings the computer engineering graduate program rose in ranking from number 66 in 2022 to 63 in 2023 among more than 140 schools. Additionally, the electrical engineering graduate program rose in ranking from number 75 in 2022 to 63 in 2023 among more than 180 schools. 

Over the last six years the computer engineering program has risen in ranking from 81 to 63 and the electrical engineering program has risen in ranking from 96 to 63.

U.S. News & World Report determines its program rankings based on peer assessments by department heads in the specialty area.

That our department’s programs continue to climb in rankings illustrates our continued commitment to excellence in research conducted by our faculty and students,” Said Suresh Subramaniam, Professor and ECE Department Chair.

The increases in national rankings coincides with the department’s increase in scholarship and research expenditures. ECE is projected to have $5.7 million in research expenditures in FY 2022 – a 119% increase from FY 2016.
